Carex testacea is also known as Orange New Zealand Sedge, partly due to the vivid coppery-orange the leaves turn in Autumn and Winter. This striking ornamental grass plant is ideal for creating a focal point in the garden during the colder months of the year.
The long, slender leaves arch to form a fountain shape that looks striking cascading from pots and containers. It creates a fantastic colour contrast with other greenery around the garden, has year-round appeal and is pet-friendly too.
Carex is undemanding and grows well in most soil types, as long as it is moderately fertile and well-draining. Container grown Carex testacea may need some additional insulation during Winter to protect the roots from harsh temperatures.
Versatile and robust, this sedge plant is ideal for growing alongside other grasses and perennials as ground cover, or as a standalone accent in beds, borders or pots.
